Tho assailant is a'labourer, who lives with a mate in a hut lienr Winton. For some time past 116 had 'been behaving in a peculiar, manner, and ' last .Tuesday had. secured a double-barrelled gun, and with it blew tho tide of tho hut out. Ho then left his mate, and this morning got on a train and proceeded to Winton. Constable M'Quarrie, whd had been informed of his peouliar behaviour, went to Wintoii station and. arrested tho man. When ho got him : into'tho i passage of the oell tho nl'an took out a' razor and violently drew it across iho constable's arm, cutting- tho coat and penetrating tho biceps j the blade fortunately missed the main artery. / Two men, who happened' to be near by, oame to tho constable's asslstanco. Tho constable,,'who is Buffering ' from shock and loss of blood, is not in any great danger, and serious consequences are not apprehended.'''' . v ■ His assailant was committod fa a mental hospital.
