LANDING OF EXPLOSIVES.
AN INQUIIIY.
(By Mcrraph.—Pross Association.) Auckland, January 24. An inquiry has been held as to the landing of explosives In the port from Homo steamers. It was with referenoo to tho transfer of tho first cargo of explosives into the Huia from the liner Kia Ora in October last that tho inquiry was held. Someone, it appears, made representations to tho Internal Affairs Department thftt proper precautions were not observed and insisted upon by an officer of tho Department who superintended the unloading of the Kia Ora'9 consignment of Nobel goods, and that unnecessary risks were incurred. Accordingly tho Department appointed Lieutenant Colonel Johnston, Director of Ordnnnco to tho Defence Department, to hold an inquiry as to the propriety (if tho method in which operations wero conducted.
