A meeting of those interested in -forming a Western Hutt Ratepayers' Association was held in the Ahcetown Schoolroom last- evening. There was a pood attendance,' and Mr.' M'Dougnll occupied the chair, The chairman said that tho residents of Western Hutt felt thht they had a:grievance, bo far as tho drainage was concerned. Sonlo of the people could not get to their homes during tho winter months. It had been sUggosted that the council did not spend a fair share of its revenue on the western side of tho riy<ir, whilo others had thought that, amalgamation with Petone was preferable. If an association were formed much good work could bo dono. On tho motion of Mr. Piorcy it was unanimously resolved to form a residents' association, representing Western Hntt, for tho purpose of protecting tho interests of householders. It was further decided to set up a small eommitteo (consisting of Messrs. Pyne, Anderson, Meldrum, Maule, Pieroy. and the chairman, ex officio) to draft rules and report at a mooting to bo held on Friday, February 11. Councillor Ball (Lower Hutt), who was present, congratulated tho meeting on the steps which they had taken.
