NOTES AND COMMENTS.

[BT Glenooe.]

11ENTHAM RACES. CONCLUDING DAY'S SPORT. Capital acceptances have been reoeived -for the third day's events of the Wellington Racing Club's Summer meeting, arid, if the weathoi continues fine, the fixture to' concludo this afternoon will be the most' successful yet held by the club. Several now horses will bo competing .'in tho different oventa, and this should add interest to the racing. The train service, which has worked so well on the two opening days,, promises to run as conveniently to-day, and the club's patrons will find several special trains , to' suit' them. The time-table provides for trains to leave To' Aro at 10.28 a.m. and 10.48 a.m., and to leave Lambton Station at 10.23 a.m., 10.45 a.m., 11,5 a.m., and 12.15 p.m.

At 12.46 p.m.- yesterday Bobrikoff was scratched for the Consolation Handicap, one mile tnd a quarter, to be run at Trentham to-day.

In tho opening event at Trentham today, form points to 'Distinction (lOst. 131b.), who is in,at the same weight which he carried on Thursday. Despite his big impost, the Daunt gelding seems ablo to begin very smartly. Amber and White (9ot. 31b.) showed up well in the Douro Cup, and should be on hand today, as should Kanalci, who seems to be a good handicap horse in the making.

Merry Frank and Nukuatu, who provided such a fino finish i n Open Welter Handicap on Thursday, have had their engagements continued.in the corresponding event to-day.

Tattorley, who is a gross colt, arid always the better for a race, should be able to present Briar Patch with a stone in the Hopeful Stakes. Peronilla (9st. lib.) may find the heavy impost troublesome over the last furlong.

Though paid up for in two races, Sea Queen is more likely to start in the mile to-day, as, in a ten furlongs event, she is at a big disadvantage' in always being placed on the outside of the course. Ol the others, Byron and Obligant appear to bo nicely handicapped. Tho distance will be against Culprit, who has not yet started in a mile race.

Glenfinnan, who ran a good race for five furlongs in the Douro Cup on Thursday, is engaged in tho Kaitoko Handicap to-day. Tho Clanranald colt will, however, require to show his best form to beat the opposition, which includes several iirst-class hack performers.

Medallist ran in boots in tho Disposal Stakes on Thursday, but, if these ore removed to-day, he may run better in the Selling Plate, where the distance should suit him better than did the five furlongs. Full Rate is such an unccrtai-i customer at the bitrrier that tho public may now be tired of him, and he is not likely to start such a warm favourite .in the . Selling Plato as he did in the Disposal Stakes.

with Doeley in tho saddle, may bo tho machine favourite in tho Consolation Handicap. She made all tho running In the Cup on Wednesday, and, at tho half-distance, was going as well as anything. On the tracks yesterday 6he went particularly well while covering a round of tho tan.

Heavy speculation may bo looked for in tho City Handicap, tho field for. which will not bo large. Gladiole (9st. 21b.), Soldiers' Chorus (Bst. lllb.), and llakara (7st. Gib.) will have plenty of supporters. Whether theso supporters will bo satisfied after the raco remains to bo seen. Some idea of their feelings then may doubtless be gained by the appearance of their faces as they make for the train in tho evening. Harry Jackson, formerly well-known as trainer and rider of Blazer, has been seriously ill in a northern hospital of late, but has now recovered sufficiently to return to liis farm at Morrinsvillo.

Eoceno and Allegory have reached Trentham, under the care of J. MJjaugnlin. Neither of the pair raced oil tho opening days of tho meeting. Other -Into arrivals at Trentliair include Lady Volga, Seaweed, and Ruapara. Lady Georgia burst her feet wliili) racing on Thursday, and may not spoilt silk again for some little time. Oxcnhope, it is understood, is in the privato salo list. Dearest lias gone wrong, hence the absence of her name from to-day s list of acceptances. The light-weight jockey, W. Bell, is going north to ride at the Takapuna Jockev Club's meeting next week. W, Young has been tfli 60 1° Auckland to give ovidenco next J/hUrflufty

at an inquiry to be held in connection with a fall that occurred at the Christmas meeting at Ellorslio. Ho afterwards hastens south to fulfil riding engagements at the Canterbury Jockey Club's Bummor meeting.

B- Deelev's mounts at Trentham to-day mil lncludo Imagination, Sinapia, and Makara.

A heavy fog hovered round the Trentham course yesterday morning, and made it difficult to time such of tho horses as were sont against tho watch. Among the gallops clocked were: Bluo Lake, four furlongs on the tan, 61Jsec.; Exertion, four furlongs on the grass, 51 3-ssec.i Imagination, a milo on tho grass in 1 min. 45 4-ssec,; Powder Fox, the last four of five furlongs on tho grass in_ 50 4-ssec., Useful work was accomplished by Heatherbrae and Lockwood (together), Soldiers' Chorus, Sinapis, Undecided, and others.

T. Jones and W. Kirk each rode six winners at the Wairoti, Racing Club's meeting this weok. During the tvno days ot the meeting, Fair Average (General won throe raoes.cnd finished second in another, which many thought ho had.won.
