DARING BURGLARY.

PLATE GLASS & A DIAMOND. - £120 WORTH OF JEWELLERY STOLEN. Ono of Uio rao6t daring burglaries tocontly attempted in this city was successfully carried through early yesterday morning. ' Tho promises to which tho cracksmen gavo their attention wore thoso of Mr. S. G. Ross, in Lambton Quay. It is the practice in the shop to leavo a quantity of the stock in the window during the night, and, as tho window is unprotected by a shutter of any sort, tho thioves had only to break tho glass to havo free access to the valuable booty within roach. . . .

The method used was, of' the simplest. Tho glass was weakened by being crisscrossed with deep cuts, which must have been made with a proper tool, and not merely with a diamond finger ring, and then a • largo hole was broken in tho window.

Tho bulk of tho valuables within reach of the breach was taken. Tho loot consisted of watches, . pendante, brooches, bangles, and wedding and signet rings, and the value of . tho goods missing amounts approximately to J!120. No arrest has yet been made.
