Great indignation is being expressed in Washington over statements' mado by Major 'Sharpe, in the. Ottawa Parliament, to the; effect that few native' American? entered . the United : States Navy, ; and those actually joining wore no good, morally and socially. The American Navy, Major'Sharpe declared,-.was simply a home for destitute and moral degenerates and deserters from foreign ships.
'.Admiral 'Dewey- Eas-denied these statements, and asserts that American bluejackets are the equal of any sailors in the world. The rouiid-the-world cruise of the fleet proved this. Ninety per cent, of the sailors are native-born Americans.
