: A meeting of the board of directors of the Dominion, Portland Cement Co., Ltd., was held at theregistered • offlco of the company yesterday. ' The 'chairman of directors,(Mr;. Vernon ;H. Heed, M.P.) presided, the other directors present being:— Mr. Thomas Buktan, M.P.', Mr.' R. M'Nab. tho Hon. It:.Beaton Rhode 3- M.P.; Mr. Claude ■ Slack, and Mr; 0; Winstono, jun. A further 12,000 shares-were allotted, Bringing the issue of contributing shares up. to 80,000. Tho works manager . ; (Mr. AV. J. Wilson), who.was present .at the; meeting; submitted a .report, in which'ho nave do-, tails of-a recent inspection, of the company's property. Mr. Wilson stated that as a result of soundings taken 'in the Whangarei Harbour ho was prepared to recommend a site for a. ■ wharf, .which wpuld.give a minimum depth of 25 feet at low tide! thus enabling loading to be carried' out' at any time.. Otbor . necessary work had beon carried out by him with.a view to '■ an early start being made -with the 'commencement 'of active, operations regarding the installation of : the. necessary plant. The . Question of the early acquirement of plant and .machinery of' the latest and most 'pp.it.ablo •type'-was!also discussed with Mr. Wilson. It;wa,s decided.to provide,*:suitable guarantee iin connection with", the' installation by .the Whangarei Borough Council of electric nower, to be : generated from> the. Wntrua Falls. ':'A sub-committee, consisting of the chairman (Mr. Reed), and. Messr?. Nathaniel Wilson, S. J. Nathan,- and G. Winstons, jun:, was appointed' to confer with the works,manager, and'other matters requiring urgent attention. Mr. W.' J. Wilson returns to Whangarei at. once to continuo his work in connection with t.he arrangement'! for the- laying-out: of tho .-works on the. company's properties.
