Regarding the report' (published yestcr.. -' clay) showing that the freight car on the city tramways is running at a loss, an explanation by the Mayor (Mr. D.: M Laren) places the matter, in' another, light... ,-,... "I should like to point out,".6aid Mr. M'Laren yesterday, "that the report, simply gave the Teturns to the end of Deoember, but a statement was given to tho committee by the chairman of tho Tramway Board of Management indicating that' there has' been an ' improvement ■in tho' financial position since the altered run-; niiig has been adopted.': ~■-.•■.'■ The "altered running" referred to means,' tho system by which the freight car has ceased running over long distances with only a few packages. Instead of thiaj happening, provision has. been made whoreby.tho packages (iu'such instances): are taken b on the pssenger cars. This alteration is claimed to be bringing about a much better financial result,'
