Advice has bean received by the Government that the following cadets' at tho Royal Military Collcgo of Australia have, been recommended for advancement to' higher classes in tho annual rcport'of tho commandant'of the college ;—NoMI, Staff Cadet C. H.' M'Clolland, who passed soc- r ond; No, 23, Corporal/R. Miles, who passed fourth in the, third class. Tho names of these cadets'will appear in the. Military Forces List' as among the five inost distinguished' cadets of their class in tho year 1912. In the fourth class, No. 76, Staff Cadet W. G. Opio passed sixth'. ,No. 81, Staff Cadet W. G. Stevens, was handicapped bynot joining until July, 1912. Had ho joined with the remainder of his' batch,. at the beginning of tho academic year, it is believed, says tho report, ho. would havo been placed at,the top, or nearly at tho top, of his class.-.

Mr. Vincent' Hall, of Romuera, who took his B.A. degree at Victoria College, lias been appointed assistant master at the New Plymouth Boys' High School.
Tho Rev, Bro. Augustine, of. Sydney, is tho subject of an. appreciative note in "Bluo and I Blue," tho magazine of the Marist Bros.' High School at Darlinghurst. Bro, Außustine was onbipf tho first four Marist Brothers to come to Australasia in 1872, and was the founder of tho High School. Ho was for somo years connected with tho Marist Bros.' schools at Wellington, Wanganui, and other places in Now Zealand. ..
Mr. It. T. Daiisey, tho well-known Otago University and South Island represontativo footballer, has. purchased' ho Victoria Hotel at I'etono. Ho will probably play for tho Petone Rugby 'Club next season.
Mr. Duncan Blair, 'ono of tho very old settlers of the Wanganui' district, passed away yesterday, aged 81 (says-our Wanganui correspondent). . Deceased was a : very warni supporter of athletics, particularly ; football, and hold presidential positions in the Rugby Union and subsidiary, clubs of late.: John Blair, of tho All Black team, was a"son of 'deceased,, and another son is Captahr, Blair, or Christchurch. ... .' ,■ '
