Coast' branches. -i -The i-queatiqp-. • of: - the slaughtermen s 'itemands' was' discussed, and the serious effect that the closing down of the freezing works would havo on the farming in-, dustry throughout the Dominion was re>ferrecl'to.- ' ,Tho opinions expressed by the representatives of tho various districts were that the. farmers wer,o quite in favour of supporting the freezing companies as to the rat© offered (275! Gd. jper 100), ,and also as to the apprentjeo clause. • It was unanimously deculcd to approvo the action of the freezing companies, and that copies of tho resolution be sent to tho chairman of the New Zealand Freezing: Comnahics' Association, and to the chairman of'the North Island Association. Regarding a proposal for the importation of farm! labour, tho meeting expressed tho opinion that tho Sedgewick scheme of boys was better than getting out men for farm work. ' It;was decided to communicate with tho various branches of tho union regarding a scheme for mutual co-operation between members of the union for tho disposal of stock. Tho proposal emanated out of a letter-from ftio J'clorug Sounds branch," where farmers apparently are dissatisfied with the prices tor stock as compared with those in the.' Norui Island aftor allowing for shipping charges.
