In view of the shortage of grain sacks last year, which seriously inconvenienced farmers in practically the whole of the agricultural districts in tlio Dominion, there has been tin unusually early demand made upon merchants for tho execution of orders. Notwithstanding a rumour that has gained currency to the effect that there is a likelihood of a repetition of last year's experience, says a southern paper, the- merchants doing business in the Ashburton County appear to lmvo an adequate supply of sacks on hand, but a largo number of exceptionally early orders have been already executed. In. any case at least less sacks will bo required this season, as compared with last year..Owing to the shortage of sacks lest year, many farmers, who may have been seriously inconvenienced from a financial point of view, subsequently sold their.grain at higher prices, so that the occurrence, in a degree, was a blessing in disguise.
