■ . ENGLISH UMPIRING DEPENDED. By Telejrraph— Prosa Association—Copyright . Sydney, January 18. Mr. Syd. Gregory, who captained the Aus&alian cricket team, defends the English umpiring, which has been strongly criticised by llayne and l others. Mistakes, he said, were no doubt made, but they were no wor6e than those made in.first-class cricket in Australia. The Bardsley and Minnett oase3 were very glaring',, but probably were genuine mistakes. ■'•Umpires were not infallible. His eiperienoo was that thoy did not openly make flagrant breaches of the rules. Ho thought tho English umpires were quite as fair as the Australian. He knew of no remedy. •
