"TRIUMPH" ESTABLISHES CHRIST- ' OHURCH-KAIKOURA RECORD. • ■ Tho motor cycling record from Christ, church to Kaikoura and back, which was established on Thursday by Mr. Q. B. Brown on n latest modol "Triumph," and ffbioh constitutes ono of tho finest crosscountry performances ever pufcUp by a motor cyclist in New Zealand, hag a somewhat curious history, . Somo three months ago Mr, Brown challenged all and sundry to a straight-out hill-climbing oohtest. on Sumner Hill or Paokakariln Hill—tho "Triumph" against any other maihinC, There word no acceptances, but one firm said in effect; "T\'o know tho Triumph can lick our machine on tho' hills proposed, but come out on, a long run aoross ' really , bad country—Christchuroh to Knikoura end. back, for instanoo—and wo'lt show you a point or two." Well, of courso, wo didn't refuse ,that proposition. But wo thought it fair to givo thorn all a chance, and challenged any motor cyclist in Now Zealand, not riding, a "Triumph," to meet G, B. Brown and his .Triumph" on that very courso. Thoro were ten thousand «X----ouses, but wo couldn't pot ono match. So, baulked in our good intentions, wo decided to establish a record over tho | courso, and let tho other follows havo a peck nt.tt at their leisure. Ton all know what happened. Mr. Brown covered the 200 miles of rough country, half of it on an unknown roiul, in under 12 hours. The rivers and river-beds were difficult to negotiate, but tho "Triumph" stood the racket in tho regular Triumph" way, and thero was not ft break-down, not even a puncture, to mar tlio record. Not knowing tho rond, Sir. Brown. made a tew deviations and detours ho ' woitld not othorwiso havo had to make. So if anyone lowers the present record of II hours SGJ minutes, he will bo prepared' to go out again, and kupek a little moro olf the time. New stock of Triumphs just arrived.
