After two launches had left the battlecruiser Indefatigable at Portland on November 29 tho coxswain of tho leading boat mistook the lights of tho naval canteen for thoso'of Castledown Pier, and both boats ran ashoro near Portland Castle. A north-easterly gnlo was blowing, and nil ai tempts to get off 'proved unavailing. Tho crews had to rotnain until ten o'clock tho following morning without food nwl half-frozen, as they did not daro to attempt to leave the launch in tho dark and storm.
