Tho Publio Service Commissioners nio not yet prepared to take the public into thoir confidence as to the policy tnev intend to adopt in controlling tho Civil bervice, but tho Chief Commissioner vWr D. Eobertson) yesterday supplied a reporter with one or two facts bearing on tho activities.of himself and his colleagues up to tho present time. They were still, he said, very busy and wcro progressing with the inspection of tho various Departments, and doing other preliminary work, bomo misconception, Mr, Eobertson added, seemed to have arisen regarding the reports which were being obtained by thp Commission from heads of Departments. I hose reports wero not confidential. Any orficer who found, when tho classification was issued, that ho had matter for complaint or who objected to the position assigned him would have the right to seo any report made regarding him by the head of his Department. Mr..A. J. 11. Berge, who' h.is been appointed secretary to tho Commission, takes up his duties oil' Monday. . <'-uo of his activities will be tho organisation of a staff. Applications are already being cll- - for an officer with a knowledge of modern oftico systems and also for a registrar. Both officers aro to ho drawn from the Civil Service.
