THE REV. JOHN M'NEILL
The Rev. John M'Ncill's farewell sermons in London, previous to taking up his new . pastorate in. Toronto, , were preached on Sunday, December 1, at tho Metropolitan Tabcmaclo in tho morning, and tho-Wcsleyan Central Hall,, Westminster, in the evening. ' At tho Tabernacle Dr. Dixon, in a brief farewell,, told of the enjoyment with which ho had'always heard Sir. M'Ncill. His sermons, he declared, gavo him a longing to do better in life Ho did not seem to have grown' a year older since ho had seen him last, and he had certainly lost none of his cheerful spirit, which ho hoped—and felt surehe would take with him to Canada. Tho subject upon which Mr. M'Ncill addressed the huge congregation which gathered lo hear him was that upon which he preached on the first occasion, that ho ever occu-, pied tho Tabcmaclo pulpit—the lesson of the Pharisee and,. the Publican. .The Pharisee, he said, camo to tho templo for not lung—and he got what he came for. His. heart was wrong, and'there was a saying in Scotland, 'Lose heart, loso everything.' The Pharisee ought to have known how to como to God, for he had been instructed in it all his life. Yet it was ho .who ran upon the reef. At the Central Hall in'the evening Mr. M'Ncill remarked, 't can speak plainly now I'm lenviug ye.' His final message (o T/ondon was thoroughly typical of the breezy evangelist. It was a call to spontaneity, freshness, and uneonventionality.
