f Mr. W. H. P. Barber has just returned from a motor trip, through tho North Island, extending over 1000 miles. The party consisted of. Mr. and Mrs. Barber, Miss Clark, and Miss Bock. They left Wollington.on Friday, December 27, with the idea of combining a motor ond camping holiday, which intention was successfully carried out The first camp was pitched after crossing tho 1 Einiutakas. Tho.party then proceeded through the "Wairarapa and Hawk'e's Bay. district to Napier, crossed tho ranges to Taupo, .which was reached on tho last day. of the old year, and two full days were spent on tho shores of the lake. On the following morning a start was made for Wrairakei, and after viewing the sights in that locality, the party pushed on and pitched camp at tho Aratcatcn Rapids, reaching Rotorua next day. A good deal of travelling was done in viewing the sights. in the neighbourhood of Rotorua, four days being spent in tho locality. It was then decided to visit the Waikato district and some very pretty country was traversed, especially in the vicinitv of Cambridge. The party then motored through the King Country and out to tho Waitomo Caves, returning as far as To Kuiti, where they were advised that owing to the difficulty ih crcssiug some of tho unbridged creek's it would be unwise.to proceed further. The car was then railed as far as Morton and the journey completed by motor from that point. Mr. Barber considers it an- ideal way of spending a holidav, and although tho roads between Napier and Rotorua wero in a very bad condition for motoring, no accident of any kind occurred, and - the party returned to Wellington yesterday having spent a verv pleasant outing.
