VITAL STATISTICS.

PARTICULARS FOR DECEMBER.

A return prepared by-the- Government Statistician shows that tho total births, during the month of December, in tho four chief cities of tho Dominion and their suburban boroughs numbered 615, against 758. in November—a decrease of 115. The deaths in December wero 233, a decrease of 33 as compared with. last month. Of the total deaths, males contributed 120, females 113. Forty-five of the deaths were of children under five years of .age, being 19.31 per cent of the whole number; 35 of these were under one year of age. • There wore 72 deaths of pert sons of 65 years and upwards.in the lour chief cities and ; their suburban boroughs, as against,B» in November. : , •'' ' *■.-/■ In Auckland and its suburban boroughs there were 219 births and 89 deaths during December.
