SNAKES IN A WELL.

-•.Whilst'repairing-a pump and suctionpipe in a doop well on Mount Violet Estate (Victoria), on January 3, F. Giddens, an employee of A. C. M Donald, contractor, of, Mortlako, had an alarming experience with two snakes. Ho had been working in the dim light for some time, arid, happening to look up, saw a large snake uncoiling itself from the pipe just on a. level with his head. Having nc weapon avnilablo except a-small wrench, ho aimed a blow at the snake, which fell into the water. Giddens hastily ascondcd ; and with his mate, a candle, end £ weapon, descended again. Tliev discover ed'-a second snake coiled round part oi the pump where ho had been working Both reptiles were killed.
