A CAPTAIN KILLED.
John Roster' (45), captain.; of. Messrs. Allen. Taylor ond -Co.'s 6toamer Wandra, was accidentally killed. at the low-level jetty, W6llongong (N.S.W'.), on January 5. The captain was commencing to unload a cargo of timber, and was standing, on some wood at tho edge of the vessel, when ■without any warning tho wire ropo holding up tho derrick broke, with the result that it came down oil the unfortunate man's head, smashing it to pieces. Tho Wandra left Narooma on January 4 with a cargo of 10,000 ft.' of * timber for tho Public Works. Department, Port Kembla, and arrived at tho-port at 11 a.m., tho accident taking place at 11.80. Eoster was a married man with a wife and 60ven young chihlrcn. Ho was a capablo officer, and had beon'in the employ of the company for .about ten years.
