On the other hand,.fine wools sold well up to the level at the December sale, and it there'was any reduction in tho actual Ugurcs it was mainly due to the heavier condition of .tho wool. - Medium wools were scarcely so firm, and croesb'reds, especially the coarser and heavier descriptions, were par to .a haltpenny lower. Best pieces sold well, but other descriptions wore ilrregular and eenorally' eager. The bulk of the, wool wcnt.to Oontvuntol buyers, the local wool-, len mills and local speculators. Uradlord representatives wero operating very cau-i tiously, and only on the cheaper lots. American competition was almost absent beyond a ce.-tain limit, and little wool was secured for thia quarter. .The /offerings comprised.a'number of large clips as well ae farmers', lots, and among the former wore many of the best halfbred and Corrledalo clips from North Canterbury. A good clearance was effected of the catalogues submitted, competition being very keen. Halfbred: AWB over Motunau, 14Jd.; VO over Mount Hutt, 14id.; Carvaeea, ■ 14d.
