Twelve new members wero elected at the meeting of the Masterton A. and P.-Asso-, ciation on Saturday ( last. Sir. H. T. Wood was elected a life member. Mr. G. W. Sellar, of Masterton, who spent the. holidays at Taupo, states that there is an abundance of fish in the lake. A.party of three secured-eighty-two rainbow trout, ..weighing in the aggregate, a quarter of a ton, in, three days. . ■ . ; A special meeting of : tho Masterton Horticultural Society is to be held this week, to, consider- a notice of motion: "That the open class for exhibitors be made open to all, including nurserymen." Mr: H. W.., S'hortt, Mayor of East- . bourne, with .Mrs. Shortt; and family, is at present on. a' holiday visit -to this district. An alarm was, sounded on the local fire-bell last evening. " A window curtain in'the house of Mr. Spencer Cluck had taken -fire, and the flames quickly -spread to the ceiling. They were extinguished before much damago was done. A sports meeting was held'at.Langdale on Saturday last, when! there was a largo gathering c-f settlers and their. families from the surrounding districts. The gathering was in every way a success. The ' rose bowl presented by the Morrison family for tho winner of tho hunters' competition, was won by Mr. H. Faloon, with his horse Frolic.
