FIRES.
OUTBREAKS IN CHRISTCHURCH. BLAZE IN A LARGE FACTORY. . (Byi Tolegraph.—Preji Association.) Christchurch, January 12. A four-roomed cottage in Cashel Street, Lin wood, was completely destroyed by fire at . 9.43 o'clock last night. , It was occupied by Miss Harvey, and owned by Mr. .Calvert. The concents were uninsured. Tho insurance, if any, on the building, is not ascertainable. , Whilst the brigade was attending this outbreak an alarm was received of a fire at Aulpebrook's Company, a large biscuit and confectionery factory at the corner of Antigua and St. Asaph Streets, which was disoovored at 10.12 o'clock, Tho motor pump and six men were dispatched, and were successful in confining tho outbreak to the chocolate toodi, ir which it evidently had originated. Th« drying room' above got a little smoko, bui it is'believed it will not injure the confectionery which was in moulds. The damage done in the chocolate room it estimated at under .£SOO. The building! and contents were insured in variou< offices for £30.000, but' the details an not ascertainable.' • >'•' Considering that much of the plant ami a, fairly Jargo number of men were ab sent at the Cashel Street fire, the brigadi did excellent work in coping with th< outbreak.
