CLYDESDALE HORSE SOCIETY

AN INCREASING MEMBERSHIP. -'\ . The membership of the Clydesdalo Horse Society of/New Zealand;is reported to have now increased to 815, most of tho members being active breeders, and having registered their, studs. A considerable number of the members have' submitted their horses to veterinary examination, and the result of. that examination is recorded in the Stud Book. though, the examination is entirely'l optional, and no stipulation of the, kind is. insisted uponi it is desirable4hat as ir!ahy as possible should, be so examined,;and their freedom from hereditary unsoundness recorded. A recent issue of tho "Scottish Farmer," referring ,to the so-> cicty, remarks:—"A notable fact in connection with the foundation of its Stud Book is the resolution to make certified soundness an element iri- registration. The society does not base its registration on "this, but while pedigree determines title to registration,' soundness as certified is recorded . ; . There ; can be no doubt that in this"matter New Zealand breeders are following a sound policy. Their market is Australia, and they also hope to find an entrance into Argentina. Therefore they must have guaranteed soundness in their foundation -.stock,' or there will be trouble. Home breeders are expected to back up the Dominion of New Zealand in this respect." ,

A meeting of the New Zealand Producers' Association is to be held on Thursday noxt, in order that the executive of

the association may meet Mr. W. D. Lysnar, who has boon on tin extended tour of Great Britain, where he has interested ' himself in the question of the handling of New Zealand frozen produce. Mr. Lysnar is expected to arrive in Wellington from Sydney on Wednesday next.
