mO tt J ,ot ° rua i January 10.'i. Ihe Hon. Dr. Pomare to-day met representatives of the Maoris . at: Ohinenmtu to discuss Native affairs. Representations were.freely made . byvanous speakers, and three points wero specially dwelt upon,.viz., the constitution and usefulness of: (a) Native .Laud Courts, and (b) Native Land Boards, and intended legislation affecting the Maori race. Stveral speak jrs raised tho quesV n f the abolition of both the Native land tribunals.
The Minister indicated > that he would lay the views of the meeting before his colleagues.'. ; '. .'"
Tho principal subject raised, however, was whether an effort should'be made to do away, with tho-distinction between, the two raoes, and place the Maoris on entirely even terms in every .way with tho pakeha. > Feeling was , manifested in favour of this, and several speakers expressed a strong desire to see this carried, into effect. The conference has not finished.
