A man named Jaok Brady, about fortf years of age, a well-known contractor, fell off the at Kaiwhaiko this morning and was drowned. Tho boat was travelling, fast against a strong current, and, Brady was carried a long way astern arid, sank before assistance could reach him. The body. has not been recovered. . ' ... A CAROL GOLDAMMER'S DEATH. 1 Hastings, January 0. Carol Frederick Gqldammer, aged 8,4 years, a widower, who was a visitor hero from Dunedin, met with a fatal trap aocident on Pakowhai Road, four miles from , Hastings, last'evening. In opmpariy with friends, ho was driving towards Mteanoe, when the horse'shied at a mob of cattle and jerked the trap backwards. Goldammer was thrown on his head, and died' in a fow , minutes.
