Observatory ■was viewed with considerable satisfaction by the residents. It had long been ''.clairiied that Hokitika' could hold;' its 'own 'with'.many other toiyns.in the'matter of sunshine, arid since the .little instrument has been busy engaged tripping everyday of bright sunshine some interesting results been-placed on record., The libel upon the West Coast weather, so far •as it applies to Hokitika, proral 'false.: ■ The records' for the' auhrter: endirig 'December '• 31; are interesting, and go to prove that there is an abundance of bright sunshine in this' district. The'sunshirib :records-are as follow;— For October, 164 I hours 9 minutes ;:• November;/170 hours 12 . miriute9; Decembei 1 , ; 23Q ..hours. During December nearly three inches of rain fell. ,It is interesting,to note that' sunshine recorder: at the Hokitika Observatory is -the only one on the West Coast, arid was . quite recently .installed, and when the figures for the first twelve irionths are available interesting comparisons with other, owns will bo possible/ \
