NEW LOAN' AT A DISCOUNT. By Telwraph—Proii Asinciatlon—CoßSrlrtl (Rec. January 9, 0.35 a.m.) London, Jannalry 8. The Tasmnnian loan of i 11,300,000 at 4 per cent., issued last week, is quoted at one-quarter per cent, discount. The "Daily Chroniclo" expresses surprise at the result of so attractive an issue, and says it has greatly modified tho views held regarding the. prospects of loans in the near future. The "Daily Mail" says the failure is an evidenco that the public nowadays is satisfied with nothing below 5 per cent. Of nine colonial loans floated since November only two were fully subscribed, and both wero offered at 5 per. cent. London, January 7.; The -underwriters will receive seventytwo per cent, of the Tasmanian loan.
