, SALE OF A FAMOUS LIBHAEY. • At New York recently the sale of tho fourth and last portion of the famous Hoo library was"'completed. The total'amount' realised .was .£386,100, which falls somewhat short of tho expected ,£l<)0,O00, but it is by far the highest sum over obtained in tho history of book sales. 'The sale of tho previous highest-priced library, viz., the Ashhurnlinm library, in ' England, brought '.£95,929, or less than one-fourth obtained for tho American bibliophilist's collection. Manv record prices were created during tho sale, notably tho ..£IO,OOO for tho Mazarin Bible on vellum, tho highest amount ever obtained for a printed book. The books were disposed of in seventy-nino sessions spread oyer nearly eighteen months. - /
