ONEHUNGA MYSTERY.
A WOMAN'S DISAPPEARANCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, January 7, A young man named Campbell had a somewhat disquieting esponenco yesterday evening. He had accompanied a fellow boarder, Miss Edith Burgess, to Onehnnga to get her luggage from the Northern Company's office. As it was blowing heavily at the time ho loft her standing under tho verandah of a hotel while he nout down to tho whaif. He was somewhat surprised unor> loturning with the luggige not to find his lady friend where ho had left her. He inquiicd in the hotel and also searched the town until ten o'clock without finding any trace of her, and then deemed it advisable to report tho matter to a constable. This morning Campbell reported to tho police that sho had not returned to tho boarding--1 house. It seems that the young lady, who , is described as being about 21 years of ago, camo from New Plymouth about six months ago, and has been employed in "Auckland, ever since. She went out to OncHunga yesterday afternoon with the intention of returning to her home in I New Plymouth by tho Rarawa. Sho took I ticket at the Northern Comv panyV office, but owing to the heavy gnlo blowing decided not to go by that boat. Bhe accordingly left her luggage in the office and returned to town and . got Campbell to accompany her to Onohunga at about 7 p.m. for tho purpose of assisting her. with-her luggage at Onehnnga. As already stated sho disap--1 poa'rod. ' Later. A report appeared in the ''Star" tonight regarding the disappearance of Miss i '.Edith Burgess. A telegram received tonight stated that the young lady was at Marton, having evidently travelled south by rail instead of by steamer.
