As a consequence tho championship will bo decided by a triangular match (imbue tliese players. Tho following aro tho details of play for tho olevcntii round itFinal Rourid. Maimßoll v. Dodds,—Dodds opened with ' a contro counter' gambit' and, with au cxchango of pawns and minor pieoes ho won a pawn. Maunsell threatened a strong attack; but Dodds, quickly bringing his knight into play, .broke.up' the attack, and won another-pawn. Dodds now attacked and, winning tho radiance, eoored a win with a forcible twenty-fifth move. ... : .' i: ■■ . . • Cob v. Barneii.—Colo opened with tho queen's pawn gaino and developed his position very strongly. He had a good game up to tho seventeenth move, but hero exchanges left him with an opon position, and Barries with a good attack. Barnes pressed the attack and, ,in further exchanges, Colo lost two pieces. A few moves later ho resigned. Soverno v. Mason.—Mason in this gamo played tho French defenco and, < moving hurriedly, 1 left Soverno n pawn and tho exchange which ho did not accept. Mason built up n strong pawn position, but in opening _up tho files by the exchanges, ho aided his opponent. On tho twentyeighth movo Soverno won a pawn left fox him, and pressing hti; attack after tho exchange of queens,'won a bishop, Mason ro3igning a hopeless, game. • Hicks v. iColling.—ln this game Kelling offered tho Fronoh dofenoe, tt very eyen opening ensuing. Kelling exchanged bishopfor knight, arid Hicks thtn worked up an attack, making a very forcible move, bv ; which lie won. a pawn. " •Hooks were exchanged, and Hicks, with ii; combination of knight, bishop, and qileen, won a second pawn, and, later, with a discovered check, won. a knight, Kelling conceding n, win on tho twenty- , fourth movo. - Gyles V. JamSs—James played the Petroff Defonce to Gylcs's, opening. Tho latter built up an pttack, James steadily defending. A t move, 19, : Gyles, won a pajra, and thratened' to mate. ! James, made a splendid defence, btt, in tho general exchangd of pieces, was unablo to regain the lost pawn. A most interesting gamo followed,, but James could not prevent Gyhis from queening a pawn; and> ho resigned. ; : .' Grierson .v. Sainsbury.—Grierson played tho Euy Lopez, l which Sainsbury opposed with the Steinitz Defence Deferred. Sainsbury exchanged off tho knight for ;a bishop, opening up tho king's filo for Grierson. By an exchange of. pawns Grierson castwl .on tho queen's side, and,built up what appeared on overwhelming attack upon Sainsbury's kings' position, bat-tho latter player made everything secure.: Grierson rang the chahgss of position, ■to bring about a more Satisfactory combination, out nothing would avail.
