A Christchurchi oxchango draws attention to the fact that on January 1 an event of groat interest and importance to the' Methodists of New Zealand occurred. For somo years there has'been a movement for tho separation of tho New Zealand Church from Australian Methodism. Before this could come into operation certain legal formalities hail to bo complied .with.. . These havo all been completed, and, as authorised by ■ the several Acts providing for the independence jf tho New Zealand Conference, tho president of-tho General Conference has signed the necessary document declaring ihat from the first day of January, 1913, ;ke Methodist Church of New Zealand wines inter existence- as a •self-governing shurch. The public celebration, of this lew departure will take placo when the irst independent conference meets in iVollington on February 5: It is expectid that the General Conference will bo ■epreseutcd by its president, the Rev. H.' foungman, D.D., and tho I?«v. W. Morey,,D.D.
