QUARANTINE OF IMPORTED STOCK.

.Dealing in his annual report with- tho question of tho quarantine of imported stock, tho Director of tho Livo Stock Division of the Department of Agriculture (Mr. C. J. Heakes) states that he has sent, forward recommendations for new quarantine regulations, which .he considers necessary.. Continuing, Mr. Reakes says:— •■'.•;•' ■•'•-'/ ' 'In a tountry like New Zealand, where wool and meat especially- form ?o great a proportion"of our 'total exports, the maintenance of a liigh standard of quality in lire stock is, an absolute essential if we are to continuo to hold our position against our competitors, in- the world's markets, so it is only right that any concessions that-can reasonably bo given to importers of high-class ' stock should ' be, granted, hence, my recommendations in-' elude a reduction in the 'amounts .charged as quarantine fees. . .;'. The provision of now, and up-to-date buildings for the accommodation of'stock in Quarantine is becoming necessary at nil : three stations in New Zealand, and I consider that pteps ..should, be taken. to. provide the«e. Some inorcaso. to the present accommodation at Somes Island has already- been authorised, yet remains to be done, and I intend to mako recommendations accordingly." v-.
