Tho, thirtieth annual meeting of tho Now Zealand Education Institute was opened to-night. •About Bixty delegates wero present from all parts of the Dominion. ,'-.'•' -Congratulatory addresses woro delivered by tho Mayor and ,'bther'i prominent citizens. / - The president delivered a lengthy address, in which he .traversed the history and aims of the institute, and put forward Bomo striking suggestions regarding the improvbmente of the educational system and tho part which the institute should tako therein. Ho outlined the following programme for the consideration .' of tho conference!—(l) _ The gonoral plan of a progressive, curriculum from the J kindergarten to the university, with provision for transition to commercial and technical studies; (2) o general sohemo of instruction covering the above curricula) (8) a sohemo for scouring tho best means for passing. on pupils from one stage of education t6\ the others; (i) a plan 'of administration suitable lor, carrying out the above; (5) a plan' for tho selection, equipment,, and training 'of teachers; (G) the functions and limits of examinations; (7) the fitness: of school buildings for tno various, kinds ■of educational work: (8) the "moral and physical training of children; (9) the suitability of school books and appliances.
