In the House of Commons, Mr. Farrell {Nationalist member for Longford) gave notioo of his intention to ask Mr. Sydney Buxton, President of the. Board of Tradet Whether tho P. and .0. steamer Narrung, during a storm in, tho'lndian Ooean on hor last Homoward voyage, tioolcd over at on angle of fifty-four degrees, and was in such danger that tho officers were on the point of lowering the boats | Whether tho Waratah, a sister ship, had capsized from top-hoaviness owing to bid construction; arid, Whether the BoaTd of Trade intended to allow tho Naming to continue "to cany passengers on long voyages. The Naming is a vessel of 6078 tons gross. Sho was built at Sunderland in 1896, and was formerly of the Lund Blue Anchor fleet, which was purchased Jrecently by tho P. and 0. Company. The ill-fated Waratah was also oftfiis lino, but cannot be described as a sister 6hip. The Waratah was ft steamer of SOM.tons and was built in 1908 by Messrs. Barclay, Curie, and Company. She left Durban for Capo Town on. July 26, 1909, with about 300 persons, was sighted at sea the following day, and has never since been hoard of.' Tho Court of Inquiry, in February, Mil, found that the Waratah had sufficient stability, and was seaworthy. Sho had been lost during a storm in which sho had probably capsized. The Court criticised the evidenco of-Mr. F. Lund and of the representative of the builders.
