Cassidy, and to those who have -occasion to use. that rqute; through the Southern Alps, "Cassidy's coaches are an institution, and Mr. Cassidy himself is an identity. There are prospects, of a. change''in'the hear future, as' the contract for the carriage. of mails between' , Cass and Otira has been let to Mr. A. Hall, of Wellington, who will take up the . service to-morrow. It is understood,that there was a considerable difference in tho tenders submitted by Messrs. Casi. sidy and Hall. It is said that since, the; acceptance of Mr. Hall's tender was notified that the latter had made an offer, for. Mr.' Cassidy's outfit, but as no agreement wa? come to it is believed that vMr. Cassidy is going tb continue running a coach t service between Cass and Otira in. opposition to Mr. Hall's The public . should be the gainer by this competition.
