HISTORY FROM NEWSPAPERS.
} ' SOCIETY TO PRESERVE CLIPPINGS. A recent discussion in Berlin regarding the historical value of newspapers has led to tho organisation of an association for the creation of a general record by means of cuttings from the daily press. After completing the necessary preliminary work, the organisation will be in active operation at the beginning of the New Year. It has adopted the title of "The German Newspaper Archives." It intends to preserve and classify cuttings of everything that may appear in the German press that mhy have more than momentary interest, so that the collection shall bo of assistance both to those who are seeking for isola'ted_ items of information and for those 'who intend to write a partial or specialised history of the time. In the beginning it .is intended to make. a specialty of financial, industrial, and'labour questions, and social economies, but it is hoped that the scope of the organisation .may be greatly enlarged within the of a year, and the promoters hope that ultimately the usefulness of thoir undertaking may be made so apparent that they will be' able to malce a successful application to the State for financial support.
