BOWLS.
■SATURDAY'S PLAY. .'•■ The weather was distinctly windy- and very dusty at .tinies.on Saturday . afternoon, and . consequently the conditions/ were by: no means ideal for bowls. Still no one is growling. Tho weather light through the holidays.has-been perfect for. bowls, and the result has been very keen greens and good attendances. In order/to get into form for both the centre's tournament and that, of the Northern Bowling, .Association, a good many/teams have been playing- together during 'the /past fortnight feeling one another's playj and the result has. been highly benefioial in ' several cases. -Like , every : other /' game, bowls demands form, and. if a player is not "in nick" he cannot do himself or his skip: justice. \ • /..' Some consternation has been caused in bowling circles by the resignation of Mr; Thomas Churchward as secretary of the centre. One'gathors that behind the plea of "too' much: work" ■ there are personal '. reasons actuating Mr. Churchward in the course he has adopted. If that is so, it is'. to be regretted, for in losing the services of ; Mr. Churchward the centre loses 'an energetio and enthusiastic secretary, whose excellent work has made' the centre "tournaments the most pleasant feature of the season. So far the centre has not accepted the resignation,'having decided to leave it over'for discussion by.a fuller meeting of the centre./' This leaves room ■for the hope that Mr./ Churchward will be r persuaded to retain the office(heat present occupies. -■'.'■■■■-'.-■ :/ w -y 1, , \ Before 'another week is gone the ■ local bowlers who are to .take part.; in the N.B.A; tournament at' Auckland willhave left for- Auckland, where the tourney begins on this day week (January 6). This will in. all probability be the -final tour--aament played under the banner of the ' Northern Bowling Association. •■..-.
