'" : So often has the modern girl been reproached with being different from the girl of other days, tnat one has oome to ■ sympathise with her habit'of standing up for herself. The rhapsody, therefore, to which Mr. Stephen Paget has risen in "Another Device" (Hodder and Stoughton) meets few prejudices in extolling what none of her admirers will deny to be the finest product of the age. A touch of 6alt in this, ■ as in the other essays of which' the book is composed, takes nothing from their flavour. To quote a few 'paragraphs: "She is tall, ierect wide-shouldered, and strong-limbed. Her hands and feet, her features, and her Irenes are larger her muscles are hard: she breathes deep, walks fast, and eats too fast. She sleeps heavily, but does not - snore, and -her dreams, which are vivid and fantastical, .belong to comedy, not to. tragedy. : .
How Shs Walks. "She is proud, and well she may be, of her'body, and is wholly ignorant of its anatomy and physiology. It works so 6moothly that she takes her physical health' as : a . matter of course;-therefore, she makes'a bad patient,: and would not make a ■ ■ ; ' .
