ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

death by poison. INQUEST—JAMBS HENSHILWOOXfc Before Mr. E. Arnold, J.P., and a jury of six, at the Magistrate's Court jesterday, an inquest was held concerning tho death of James Henshilwood, patternmaker, of Salisbury Terrace. Medical evidence given by Dr. Bowerbank, was to the effect that deceased had been 'found dead outside his workshop on Christinas Eve. Examination indicated that he had been dead for half ah hour. Over the right eye there was a cut over an inch long, but no other marks of violence wero found. An enamelled mug, which had recently contained cyanide of potassium, was found on a bench inside the workshop. Witness oould not say whether deceased actually took the poison, as no odour was evident, and a post-mor-tem examination had not been made. In witness's opinion death would have been, almost instantaneous if" deceased had taken the poison. . ' Tho evidence of Mrs. Henshilwood was to the effect that her husband was of a very happy disposition. She added that ho was addicted to drink, and, justbefore he was found dead, he had been intoxicated. The presiding justice returned a verdict to the effect that deceased'had met his death through taking oyanide o| potassium whilst in a temporarily unsound state of-mind.
