Masterton, December 26. Tho Taratahi-Cortorton. mooting was held to-day in beautiful weather. Speculation was brisk, a sum of ,£7377 being put through the machine. Ca'tt). v From a fair start, Morry Valo was tho first to show clear, but, before a furlong was gone, Astral had taken charge, and, leading all tho way, won with tho greatest ease from Musoadine, who finished two lengths in front of Elevated, with Bomil and Knightly closo up. Leapnki was the only withdrawal from tho Cup, leaving a field of four runners. Undecided was made a pronounced favourite, with Sir Knox also in demand. From an even start Bally Shannon and Beacon went to the front, with tho other two in close attendance. Bally Shannon led to tho straight, whore Undecided took charge, with Sir Knox putting in his claim. In a splendid finish Sir Khox beat the favourite by a head, with Bally Shannon two lengths away. Marchmont). Merry Guy was quickest to begin from an even start, and with Runaway Girl made all the running. Halfway down tho straight Merry Guy shot out, and won with ease by three lengths, with Runaway Girl a similar distance in front of Sir Saracen. Time, lmin. 2 '4-osee. There was-a lot of "playing up" at tho post, Full Rato and as usual being very unruly, but the start was nevertheless a good one. Negative, tho favourite, was out first, but was displaced by Killaloo and Winning Post. The field was bunched coming into tho straight, with Negative coming fast on the outside. In a great finish, Negative won by a nock from Full Hate, who was half a length clear of Longste'p. Time, lmin. 18sec. GLADSTONE HACK WELTER, of 70 sovs. Seven furlongs. 2 Mr. R. Knox's br. g.' From a good start, Overrate and Indra were tlio first to show out, with Big Blast lying tlvtrd. Overrate, well handled by Watson, led all the way, and. won with ease by four lengths from Big Blast, who was a length clear of Royal Maid. Time, Imin. 30sec;
