BURIED TREASURE.
A STRANGE EXPEDITION. (By Teleeraph.—Press Association.) (Bee. December 25, 5.5 p.m.) New York, December 24. Miss Genevieve Ward and Miss Barry Till are heading an expedition which has departed from Panama for the Cooos Islands, about 500 miles south-west of the isthmus, to search for buried treasure.
The only Miss Genevieve Ward known to fame in this part of tho world is the tragedy actress of that name, now in her seventy-fourth year, whom one would suppose would bo well past such hazardous jaunts. Over a quarter of a century ago Miss Ward visited Australia and New Zealand, giving a powerful performance, amongst many, as Stephanie in "Forget-me-Not." Subsequently she appeared with tho late Sir Henry Irving in several of his big tragedies. She has recently been teaching elocution in London. Sir Ernest Shackleton has been reported to be searching far treasure in the samo vicinity. Tho treasure on the Cocos Islands is stated to have been buried by pirates, and is variously estimated to amount to from .£5,000,000 to .£30,000,000.
