DOMINION NEWS IN SYDNEY.
• _$_ _—-- DOES THE SYDNEY PRESS DISCRIMINATE? Mr. A. S. Biss, of Wellington, who hag returned from a brief business visit to Sydney, expresses surprise that more NewZealand news is not published in the Sydney papers. "The only things I noticed during the timo 1 was there was a notica about somebody's death, and the Hon. .1. Allen's departure for England. It is not right! I met with more of the commercial and business people in Sydney than I ever have before, and they all agree- that the news service from New Zealand'is wretched. For instance, I Diet several men interested in the sugar trust case who wore anxious for news about the case, but could discover nothing or next to nothing about .it in the Sydney papers. Somo wool men I met told "mo that thev had spent pounds in cabling to New Zealand to ascertain the results of our first wool sales, which were not re-, ported in-tho Sydney press. lam Riven to understand that a good deal of liewa is forwarded, but a good deal .of it 19 never printed. As a matter of fact, I bin inclined to think that they do.not want to give Now Zealand any publicity.-. What',is always published, howover, are the reports about there being heavy weather on the coast. Captain Rolls, of the steamer I came across in, says that he is always boinsr questioned by tourists as to whether they are likely to exwr.ence any of the heavy weather the New Zealand const is noted for, showing that the reports of bad weather have created an impression ou the Australian, mind that fine weather is a rarity in New Zealand."
