MR. J. W. POYNTON.
& PRESENTATIONS PROM HIS STAFFS. Mr. J. W. Poynton, who retires at the end of tho year irom the position of Secre-. tnry of Treasury to take up the position of stipendiary magistrate at I'alnierston North, was on Monday presented with a number of tokens of esteem by the Depart nental officers with whom he has been associated for the past two years and a half. From the Treasury staff he received a gold wailch, a 6uit case, a silver-mounted decanter, and a fountain pen, and from tho Advonoos Department staff a set of silver-mounted carvers and fisli lmives, a writing cabinet, and an outo-thcrni bottle.
The presentations were made by tlio Acting-Minister for Finance, the lion. W. Frns?r, who expressed regret that Mr. Poyntou's health did not permit of his continuing his present arduous duties. He belioved Mr. Poynton would bo again a success as a magistrate, and he hoped tho State would bo able to retain his servio?s for many years. Mr. I'oynto'i, in acknowledging (he compliment paid him, spoko In very high terms of tho loyalty and efficiency" of the young men in the staffs which had come under his reviow.
