MOHAKA ITEMS.
Unnsnally fine weather with extreme heat lias been experienced in this district for the last fortnight, and tho exception of "Lamb's," shearing is finished so far as the larpre sheds are concerned'. Settlers aro on the whole well satisfied with their clips, and as prices are steadily on the upward tend, there is no reason to complain. The quality of the wool this season compares very fa-rourably with that of last year. Tho cut-out at ICakariki Station last week was 250 bales —a: record for the district. ■Harvesting is now in full swing, and the grain crops look well. 1 Tho want of a resident Justice of the Peace is much felt in parts of tho district. From Waikairi, the nearest centre, is some 25 miles, and now that Mrs. Redwood has sold out-and will bo leaving, things will be even more inconvenient. Having to ride fifty or more miles to obtain "a magistrate's signature to a document means loss of timo and expenso. A new motor service is about to be .started between Napier and Wairoa.. This indeed'will be a boon to residents, and it is to be hoped that the promoters will see their way to alter the present faros, ospecially at holiday times.
