CRICKET. N.B. WALEB TEACHERB AGAINST WELLINGTON. BOWLERS ON TOP. GOOD BATSMEN OUT CHEAPLY. Splendid weather oonditdone prevailed yesterday afternoon when the New South Wales Teachers' eleven met a Wellington representative eleven. Tho gamo was watched by a fair number of interested spectators. Tho visitors played fairly well, but they wero hardly seen at their best, for, ns one man put it, "we aro liable at any timo to mako a good score." Both tho visitors and the local players considered the wicket an excellent one. The match commenced at 2 p.m., under perfect weather conditions, with tho visitors batting. At twenty minutes to five, tho "Cornstalks" finished their innings, having oompiled ft total of 153 runs. Just prior to the commencement of Wellington's innings the wind changed to tho south, and cold and bleak conditions thereafter prevailed. Raiii fell at '5 o'clock, and, fivo minutes later, tho game was stopped. Play was resumed after an interval of ton minuto3, and stumps were drawn at 6 o'clock, Wellington's score standing at the magnificent total of 35 for 6ix wickots down. Tho visitors' captain, M'Mnllen, batted stylishly,'as also did Freeman. The lattor wus unfortunate enough to get a crack on tho fingors of tho left hand, and this necessitated his temporary retirement, in order that the injured member might be bandaged. Wellington's bowling was very good, particularly in the case of Robinson, who got tho best average—throe wickets for 10 runs. Grimmett—our only "googlie" exponent—came next with four wickets for 51 runs. The stumping of Morris (N.S.W.) by Cullen was a very smart piece of work. Morris (considered the fastest bowler amongst the visitors, although he is not really fast) opened tho bowling against Wellington, while Harvey took charge of the leather at tho other end. The latter emeTgod with a good average. Ho clean bowled Patton, Beechey, Cullen, and Robinson. Cribbra, who was so formidable a person in tho batting averages last year, . was caught in the slips by Harvey, whon the score had reached 80. Cullen followed, but was soon dismissed. Robinson was dealt with in the same manner. Saunders followed Robinson, but his stay waa very short. The ex-Australian had played his socond ball when he was/run out. Southall followed Saunders, and time was called soon after. Wellington's score stood at six wickets for tho small total of 35 runs. The match ought to' provide quite an interesting finish. Play bfgins at the Basin Reserve at noon today. N.S.W. Teachers—First Innings. Barnes, run out 7 Myers, c. Southall, b. Robinson 4 Harvey, c. Saunders, b. Robinson ... 0 O'Neill, b.
