Masterton, December 20. A man named Rojbert Crocker, an expressman, fell on his head at tho Masterton Railway Station yesterday through his horse suddenly jumping forward. He was picked up in an unconscious condition, and removed to the Masterton Hospital. He has not yet recovered consciousness, but serious results are not anticipated. ■ . The blookage in the wool transport is causing serious inconvenience in this district. The officials of Hue Masterton Railway Station havo been advised not to accept further consignments of wool until Monday. A firm of local merchants has telegraphed to tho Minister for Railways on tho subject. > ■ • Breakiug-up ceremonies took place at the various schools in this district yesterday. At tho Main School,/the pupils in tlra higher classes gave a very good performance of "Trial by Jury," before a largo gathering ol' parents, an the Assembly Hall. , Tho tender of Mr. J. Blackley has been accepted for tho Masterton Glendonald ms.il servion. During. the last three months, only seven calls havo been received by tho Masterton Firo Brigade. Of this number three were for fires in buildings. 'flio. pressure of water from the Igpal reservoir is very low just now;, and the fire brigade is concerned at tho prospect of having no water at tho timo of firo. : A 50yds. swimming event took place last evening in connection with tho Masterton Swimming Club. The event proved most exciting, and was won by G. Treader, in il see. . An outbreak of firo occurred at a house in Cornwall Street yesterday. Tho fire brigade was summoned, and managed to subdue tho flames before much damage was done. During the dinner hour at the Waingawa freezing works yesterday, the staff assembled ana. presented Mr. J. Connel, tho chief clerk, with a handsome tea and coffee service, on the occasion of his approaching marriage. The quarterly meeting of tho Masterton Fire Board was held yesterday, Mr. 0. Pragncll presiding. It was decided that tho question of providing now uniforms for the fire brigade bo brought up When the estimates for tho coming year aro under consideration. It was decided to nsk tho Borough Engineer to construct certaAn sumps in tho town. Tho secretary was instructed to. mako the best arrangements jiossible with tho Trust Lands Trust in connection with tho Ivuri-. puni firo station, the lease of which has expired. Accounts amounting to .£7l 125.Gd. wore passed for payment. . Fourteen successive summer days have been experienced, with hardly a drop of rain. Shearing is now well advanced, and the local freezing works are becoming very busy. Crops aro looking well, and a big harvest of hoy ia being gathered.
