NOTES' ON THE PLAT.
Masterion, December 19. The second day' 6 proceedings in the match Masterfcon versus South Melbourne produced some interesting play. ■ It was expected that the raia would havo deadened the wicket, but it played fairly easy for a time. It was somewhat broken; however, towards , the finish. Kyles's batting vra<j a treat to -watch. Kelly also compiled a useful score, and Pentad batted briskly: ■ South Melbourne's score increased to 368, and the general form shown was particularly good. It is evident from the play of"the visitor that they are a.gcod all-round batting team. Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin-will, no doubt, extend their play, and some exciting tussles should be witnessed at.these centres. ■ '" .■ . Mosterton gave a poor display m their second innings. The bowling of Trott was undoubtedly puzzling by its fine lengtn and equally fine break. Trott, without doubt, was at his best. Scott also bowled well. The team has a variety of attack, as will b= demonstrated throughout the tour. The fielding is also excellent, end is bound to be favourably commented upoa throughout the tour. The visitor*; speak highly of their treatment here. Masterton folks are spkndid hosts—this must be admitted.
