REQUIEM 'MASS FOR FATHER VENNING.
There were '33 -members of the Roman Catholic clergy from nil parts of the Archdiocese of Wellington and a largo conprregation present, at a special memorial service heft at the Hill Street Basilica at 9 a.m. yesterday for .'the', lnte Rev. latnto Venning. In the case of the death of one. of the olerjry it is usual to -hold such a f-arvicc one month after death, but on this occasion the service was put forward owing to tho fact that the month since Father's Vennihg's death ends at Christmas time. Solemn ■ requiem mass was celebrated with the Very Rev. Dean M'lvenna, of Msstorton. as celebrant, tho Rev. Father Fay (of Blenheim) as de-i----con, the Rev. .T. Herring (of Bouleolt Street) as sub-deacon, and the Rev. Father Hurley as master of ceremonies. TJio music' of the mass was sung by a choir of priests, with the Very Rev. Dr. Kennedy o? conductor, and the Rev. Father Scbacfcr as organist. After the mass was celebrated the Sisters of Mercy, of St. Mary's Convent, sung their very lx>autiful hymns, and the Rev. Father Kiml)cll delivered an impressive panefvrio on the late Father Venning. The servicn concluded with the Absolution of the Catafalque.
