PETONE COURT CASES.

vThe monthly attmg of the Petone S.M. Court iras conducted before Dr. M'Arthur Hugh Riddler, for failing to attend drill, he being an enrolled territorial, was ordered to come up for sentence, when called upon. Leonard Doug as Millward, for failing to attend parade, and John Lindsay Bants, for obstructing a parade, were convicted and ordered to pay costs 95., in default 4S hours imprisonment. G. H. Jenkinson, Government inspector of noxious weeds, proceeded ag-ainst Phillip for allowing gorso to grow on his place at Horowiki. Mr. Wilford, who appeared for the defence, argued that gorse had not been gazetted by the local authority governing defendant's property, lhe Bench agreed, and the case was dismissed. Solicitor's fee of ,£1 Is. was allowed.

Mrs. Weitzel (Mr. Salek) sought to tocover .£SO damages from Herbert Apple, yard (Ik. Wilford) for alleged assault, bad language, and trespassing. Evidence was giren on plaintiff's behalf to the effect that defendant went to her house, forced, his-way into the house, and said insulting; things. l?or the defence, it was argued that the action was only a ruso to extort money, and evidence was given defying all use of bad language and assault and trespass. Judgment was given for defendant, costs up to =£3 being awarded against plaintiff. J. and E. Battersby sued Louis Truckman for work done. After hearing evidence on both sides, judgment was filtered for plaintiff for the full amount, £3 15s. and costs £3 4s.

In another action J. and E. Bnttersliy v. C. Pomfrey. claim £3 9s. 6d., plaistiff was non-suited. , • ~■

In the judgment summons case, Bonthorno Wilson v. C. E. Skinner, claim £i 6s. lid., no order was made.

PISTOKE HUE BOARD,

The quarterly meeting: of the Petaie Fire Board was held yesterday afterueon, and was atl ended by Messrs. Mothes (chairman), M'Ewan, Piper, Short, and Hnnimond.

The superintendent (Mr. Lcpper) reported.that tho brigade had been turned out on six occasions during last quarterfour times to actual fires and twice to false alarms.

Mr. Dawson, electrical engineer, reported that all plant had been Tcinoved from tho old station to the. new building, and during .removing operations, the alarm system had been kept intact. At present everything was in first-rate order. Both reports were adopted. Mr. Dawson offered his services as electrician to the board for a small retaining fee. On the motion of Mr. M'Ewan. the offer was accepted. A further account for fitting up tho electric plant at the now station . was passed, subject to the work done being inspected and passed by a competent electrical engineer. The Standard Fire and Marine office gave notice of the renewal of the risk on the old fire station and its contents.

Superintendent Lepper asked for a schedule of his new duties under the new arrangements. After some discussion,' the matter was held over.

Messrs. Izard and Weston enclosed a cheque for ,£iil3 19s. 6d., as balance of loan from tho Wellington Harbour Board, less their costs .£ll Os. Gd.—Received.

■The secretary reported that the financial statement showed a credit of .£372 17s. at the bank phis 18s. 2d. Some discussion took place regarding the purchase- of a hovsc, and tho superintendent reported that ho had inspected (several animals, , but none were suitable. Subsequently it was resolved to leave the matter in the hands of a sub-committee.

PETONE JUNIOR CLUB. Another evening sports meeting in connection with the Petono Junior Club was held on tho local recreation ground last evening. Tho results were as follow:— 120 yds. hurdles—House (9 behind), 1; W. Ryan (10 behind), 2. High jump—Jos. Corson (Win., sft. Tin.), 1; Jas. Ryan <Bin., sft. Sin.), and W. Ryan (Win., 'sft. Sin.), tied for second Boys' 120yds—First heat: Thomas (11 yds.), 1; Ron Cowie-(50r.),2; C.Clark (13 yds.), 3. Second heat: Noble- (fiyds.), 1; Cooper (11yds.); 2-; Rao Cowie (scr.), 3. Third heat: Abbott (Byds.), 1; Wylie (U yds.), 2; Rouse- (10yds.), 3. Final: Noble, 1; Cowie, 2; Abbott, 3. High (12iu., 4ft. llin.), 1; Abbott (lOin., 4ft. 7in.), 2. SEVERE WOUND. Yesterday morning a married man named Gus Caldwell, of Cuba Strcot, Potone, met with an accident at the Gear Meat Works. Caldwoll is <i slaughterman, and while dressing a sheep the knife slipped, inflicting a severe wound on the forcnvni.
